Importing a dxf spiral feature into layout
Importing a dxf spiral feature into layout

I have been given a spiral feature within a dxf file that has been exported from a magnetics simulator (Amperes). I need to import it into a layout for mask generation and it needs to be as true to form as possible. When I import the file, I cannot merge on import as it will completely disappear. Once imported, I remove cuts in the spiral, and use the Draw > Convert > Connect Segments (with 0 tolerance) to resolve the spiral feature. I am concerned about the loss of curve (low number of vertices) in the feature. Is there a way to control more of how this feature imports? Is this a limitation of the manufacturing grid?

Sometimes the curves are exported as Splines to DXF file from a CAD software which could result in coarse curves in another CAD software. The best way would be to export these curves as polylines if possible and then import that DXF file in L-Edit. Also, it's a good idea to import a DXF file without using the merge open polylines option in Import DXF dialogue. You can always merge the open polylines in L-Edit using Draw>Convert>Connect Segments option.
